Basic informations
Belgium is a low-lying country on the North Sea coast in the Benelux. The area in the North, called Low Belgium, is very flat with sandy beaches, polders and small hills rising to about 197 feet. The county is a member of the long-standing international Benelux community. It is a founding member of the European Union and hosts its headquarters, as well as those of other major international organizations, including NATO. Historically, Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg were known as the Low Countries.
