Thailand's Shopping Scene

Thailand is one of the most visited country in the Southeast Asia. It hs become a tourist destination because of it's exotic beauty, rich and preseved culture and heritage. The number of temples all over are architecturally exquisite. The Thai Cuisine is a treat for the palate too.

One of the best thing Thailand has to offer is the state of the art shopping malls. In fact some malls are amongst the largest malls in the continent.
Gone are the days when Thailand was only known for the fake bargain merchandise and apparel sold in the streets and market in the city.
In Bangkok, which is the capital of Thailand boasts an array of world class shopping malls that any alcoholic shopper who loves to shop 'till she drops could die for.

 

Central World, MBK and Siam Paragon to name a few. The capital has emerged as a fashion hub in Asia. Setting trends and styles for an fashion afficionado. Sets of young talented fashion designers are supported and given a chance to showcase their designs in the malls, together with the designs of international designers.
Besides clothing, cities all over Thailand proudly boasts of their excellent handicrafts for souveneirs and home decorations. In 1976, Her Majesty Queen Sirikit wanted to help give the rural Thais an alternative source of income, so she looked for a way. In addition, she wanted to revive some of Thailand's traditional crafts. Thus giving birth to The Foundation for Promotion of Supplememtary Occupation and Related Techniques popularly know as SUPPORT. The foundation grew and the craftmen under it's wing produced a collection of traditional handicrafts. One of SUPPORT's project is the very well known exquisite hand-woven silk, the tie-dyed Mat Mee silk of the Northeast, the Yan Liphao woven bags, Thai cottons and many other souveneirs.


Other products that you can shop for especially in cities  out of the country's capital Bangkok are Nieloware products like vases, boxes, trays. " Nieloware " is the craft of decorating gold and silver objects  with delicate designs filled with metal alloy. Then there are still the ceramics, silverware, brass and bronze sculptures of figures of animal, jewelries and antiques to name a few.


So whatever kind of a shopper you are and your capacity to spend, Thailand has something to offer for you...
